Ceremony for the First Phase 3 Clinical Trial of Intravenous Hydrogen Nano Bubble Injection in Parkinsonism Patients at RSUB
Malang, September 17, 2024 – Universitas Brawijaya Hospital (Rumah Sakit Universitas Brawijaya / RSUB) proudly hosted the inaugural Phase 3 clinical trial of an innovative treatment for Parkinsonism: intravenous hydrogen nano bubble injection. This groundbreaking research is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Molecule Institute (IMI) and RSUB, supported by the RAHO Club as the sponsoring organization. There are high hopes that this technology will provide a breakthrough in complementary therapy for patients suffering from this neurodegenerative disease, which currently affects over 6.1 million people worldwide. The hydrogen nanobubble innovation aims to effectively enhance the health of Parkinsonism patients through deeper mechanisms.
The ceremonial event was inaugurated by Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc, the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya and an advisor to IMI. In his speech, Prof. Widodo expressed his hope that this research will further solidify RSUB's position as a teaching hospital that not only provides quality healthcare but also contributes to research and the advancement of medical science.
The research team for Parkinsonism at RSUB consists of dr. Siti Nurlaela, Sp.S, dr. Aris Widayati, Sp.S, dr. Novita Titis Harbiyanti, Sp.S, and dr. An Nisaa Novrizka Sari, Sp.N from RSUB, along with Dr. dr. Emmy Endang, Sp.S, CIPS, and dr. Aditya Tri Hernowo, Ph.D from IMI, supported by expert partner dr. Eko Arisetijono, Sp.S(K). The event was also attended by several prominent figures, including Prof. Sutiman Bambang Sumitro, SU., D.Sc, and Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh., DES as advisors to IMI, Mr. Kan Eddy as the chairman of the RAHO Club who sponsored the event and an advisor to IMI, and Prof. Akhmad Sabarudin, M.Sc, Dr.Sc as the chairman of IMI. Additionally, senior clinical researchers from IMI, such as dr. Subagjo, Sp.B, Sp.BTKV, Subsp.VE (K), FIATCVS, and Dr. dr. P.W.M. Olly Indrajani, Sp.PD, and dr. Saraswati, M.Psi., FIAS also attended the ceremony.
dr. Siti Nurlaela, Sp.S, the head of the research team, stated, “This research represents a breakthrough in the management of Parkinsonism, as current therapies have been limited to symptom control without addressing the underlying nerve damage.” She added that the research will be conducted at RSUB Malang over the course of a year, concluding in 2025.
Interestingly, mother of Mr. Kan Eddy, the chairman of RAHO Club, was also present at the ceremony. She had previously battled Parkinson's disease, but after undergoing several sessions of hydrogen nanobubble therapy at RAHO Club, she experienced significant improvements in her health. This inspiring personal experience undoubtedly adds motivation for all those involved in this research, reinforcing the belief that this therapy has the potential to bring positive change to many other Parkinsonism patients.
With strong hopes and support from all parties involved, this innovation in hydrogen nanobubble therapy is anticipated not only to advance the management of Parkinsonism but also to pave the way for new, more effective, and sustainable treatment methods. The success of this research is expected to bring renewed hope not only for patients fighting this disease but also for their families who accompany them on this challenging journey. With a spirit of collaboration and commitment to providing the best solutions, this research aims to foster optimism about the significant positive impact it can have on improving patients' quality of life and inspiring future medical research.
